Ibas Must Account for Rivers Money - Annkio Briggs

Niger Delta human rights activist Annkio Briggs has accused Rivers State Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas of escalating the political crisis in the state rather than restoring peace.

Briggs alleged that Ibas, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, removed democratically elected officials and symbols of governance, worsening tensions.

She claimed the sole administrator is managing Rivers State unlawfully, ignoring the rule of law, and refusing to account for state funds, which have been withheld and redirected under his administration.

Briggs further criticized Ibas for removing staff and appointments made by the suspended governor and warned that these actions are dangerous, sowing uncertainty and unrest.

She stressed that Governor Fubara remains the legitimate governor and urged the President to revisit the emergency rule if based on misinformation.

On the same day as Briggs’ comments, rival women’s groups held protests in Port Harcourt—one supporting Ibas and the other demanding the reinstatement of Fubara.

The activist expressed hope President Tinubu would reconsider his decision and lift the suspension if it was made on wrong information, which would restore peace and stability in Rivers State.
